Each month at MetroKitchen.com, our “Sharp Picks” are a selection of Wusthof knives that we have at a special sale price for just one month. For September, 2011 we’ve got the Wusthof Classic and Classic Ikon 5-inch serrated utility knives! Read on below to compare these two knives.
Both this Wusthof Classic 5-inch serrated utility knife (right) and the Wusthof Classic Ikon 5-inch serrated utility knife (below) are also known as salami knives and sandwich knives because of their versatility. These knives are both made with short serrated blades that make it easy for you to slice through sandwiches, small loaves of bread, tomatoes, and other food with tough skins or crusts. No kitchen is complete without a simple, straightforward utility knife like one of these two for everyday cutting during lunch or snacks. Each knife feels balanced and comfortable because they use a full tang that extends all the way through the handle. They’re also super-resistant to damage from moisture because of their poly handles and stainless steel blades.
The Wusthof Ikon 5-inch utility/sandwich knife (right) has a few features that are distinct from the Classic version. First, the Ikon version uses a different bolster (the mound of metal between the blade and handle) so that you can slice with the entire blade length. The Classic version, on the other hand, uses a bolster that gives you a spot to rest your fingers for more comfort.
The handle on the Ikon sandwich knife noticeably has a greater luster and a different shape. It feels smoother and slightly more ergonomic. Both handles are resistant to damage and bacteria because they’re made from a tough poly material.
The Wusthof Ikon 5-inch utility knife is available now at MetroKitchen.com for $79.95, a $10 difference versus the ordinary price. The Wusthof Classic 5-inch utility knife is only $59.95, also a savings of $10. Both of these knives are made in Solingen, Germany and include a lifetime warranty from Wusthof with normal use and proper care. Check out these great deals before they end on September 30th!
