We are lucky enough to live in the South and enjoy some amazing weather most of the year. However, there are exceptions to the rule… 100 degree days in the summer & snow/ice storms in the winter. We haven’t had any bad winter weather in 3 years, but now it has happened to us twice in the past 2 weeks. It’s fun to enjoy the snow with the kids, but they get cold way too fast and then we have to think of other things to do. So we decided to cook! First, we made Lucky Charms cupcakes. Yes, it sounds pretty gross, but the little boys were in heaven! I used a muffin pan like the USA Pan 12-Cup Nonstick Muffin Pan to bake these delicious cupcakes. Every year Frankfurt, Germany turns into the world’s largest housewares store as a result of a week long trade show of everything that can possibly used in a home. It’s called Ambiente.
This year, we decided it was time for some of us at MetroKitchen to attend this enormous show so we could bring you a world-wide view of what’s new for the home kitchen. We’re always looking for the newest and best in cookware, knives and small appliances to share with our customers.
At MetroKitchen.com, we do our best to take care of our customers every day. Occasionally, we also take care of living creatures who will never be customers!
Last Friday, we found a hummingbird in the warehouse. Several of our employees tried to capture it to take it outside. Romane noticed it was having some trouble flying. Then Lee realized it had picked up a tiny dust ball. Since hummingbirds are so light, even the smallest extra weight makes it difficult for them to fly.
At MetroKitchen, we decided to celebrate a bit early this year. Our 2011 holiday party was the result of a Turducken. Last week we had a few customers call us about roasting pans. That led us to a discussion about turduckens, which led to the party. Few had experienced this New Orleans delight, so it seemed like a great excuse for a party. After 5 hours of baking and basting, the “birds” were ready to slice and serve. Take a look:
Stacks and stacks of amazingly sharp knives…. Sounds like the scene for a horror flick. No, it’s just Wusthof’s amazing new U.S. headquarters in Norwalk, Connecticut. MetroKitchen had a chance to share in the opening festivities. Wusthof family members from Germany, Wolfgang and Harald, were both on hand to celebrate this significant move. Connecticut Culinary Institute even made a special cake, which of course was perfectly sliced by a Wusthof Classic Chefs knife. Yummy!
